SHINING STARS

This month in Shining Stars we have been using our role play area as a space station, exploring our theme of the month ‘Space/Planets’. We have been on a space adventure in our rocket, using our imagination to travel to the different planets, talking about what we could see/hear and working together to secure and fix the rocket to keep us safe! We explored different media and materials to create our space bangles. We practiced our cutting skills to cut around space pictures to make a collage. As a group we used chalk to make marks on black card to create a starry night to display our handmade planets on. We created our planets using card and paint in a salad spinner to create different patterns. On the tuff tray we have used different shapes and colours to create different style rocket ships. The children have learnt a lot about space and all about the different planets!

We have also started exploring the new season ‘Autumn’. We brought the outside in to explore the crunchy leaves. This encouraged the children to talk about how the leaves feel and use their fine motor skills to scrunch up the leaves and pull them apart. We then stuck the leaves onto a tree template to look like Autumn trees. We spent time working on our pencil control, using wax crayons to colour small leaves, encouraging the children to stay in the lines. We have also stuck tissue paper onto leaf templates and coloured autumn pictures.

Since September we have said goodbye to some of our friends that have moved up to Super Stars and said hello to lots of new friends from Little Clusters. We have been working on recognising our names for morning registration. We have also introduced a ‘line leader’ and a ‘helping hand’ to encourage the children to be helpful and responsible. The children have been working hard learning the Makaton signs for the good morning song.

Well done Shining Stars!
